As more and more managers sign up to the game and are engrossed in tinkering, I’m going to need to time-stamp this article as the TSB (Teams selected by) figures will be forever changing as we build up to GW1! So the information in this article is up to date as of 10.00 am (UK time) on 22/08/2020 with almost 1,300,000 teams registered.
The article itself takes a closer look at the ten highest owned players in FPL right here right now. It's worth mentioning that now we know Man Utd, Man City, Burnley and Villa blank in GW1, some players are likely to lose ownership. However, by taking a look at the top ten players selected right now, we got a sense of who the popular players will be for future GW's!
Now let’s dive straight in!
For managers looking for a budget goalkeeper, Ryan seems to be fitting the bill at £4.5. Brighton only kept 9 clean sheets last season but with the signing of Joel Veltman, they look to have sured up that defensive line. As well as being in the budget bracket, the positive of owning Ryan is that you can get Brighton’s backup keeper David Button for £4.0. Owners of the pair should be safe if anything was to happen to Ryan in the warm-up!
Opening fixtures are a mixed bag for Brighton, and with Sheffield United signing Aaron Ramsdale who comes into the game at £5.0, I do envisage Ryan losing some ownership over the next couple of weeks. But I fully expect him to remain in the top 10 owned players when GW1 kicks off!

15 clean sheets for Burnley last season; Pope was FPL’s highest-scoring Goalkeeper in 2019/20 with his starting price rising to £5.5. This doesn’t seem to have put managers off with 27.2% still fancying him despite his price rise! However, Burnley’s blank GW1 will certainly give owners something to consider! I’d envisage his ownership numbers falling prior to GW1 before spiking again ahead of Burnley’s home tie to Southampton in GW3 with some managers likely to activate early wildcards!

Verdict: 3/5 (Following blank GW1)
Owned by over half of the game, yet at £7.5 I still feel that the 56.6% ownership figure should be higher! TAA was the first name on my team sheet as I’d imagine he was for a lot of others. Last season he played a total of 3173 minutes, scoring 4 goals and getting an incredible 14 assists. Spectacular stats for a defender which make him as close to essential as it comes!
Liverpool have a mixed bag of fixtures early doors with Chelsea, Arsenal and a Merseyside derby in their first five fixtures. But don’t let these put you off TAA though, he’s a set and forget for the season!

Talking of set and forget, here’s another! I’m backing Man City to win the Premier League this season, and I can’t explain how important KDB is to them achieving just that! He is the engine that gets them ticking! 13 goals and 23 assists made KDB the highest-scoring player in FPL last season, yet he comes into this season priced at just £11.5!
The headache we all face is that Man City blank in GW1, leaving us all with a decision to make! As well as the blank in GW1 Man City face a tricky few game weeks with away trips to Wolves and Leeds whilst Leicester and Arsenal visit the Etihad. Dare I say it, I think these fixtures could give the 45.4% of KDB owners the green light to come off him for GW1 at least, but I can guarantee those who do come off will be jumping straight back on as soon as possible! I will be captaining KDB a lot more this season!

Verdict: 5/5 (Following blank GW1)
Transformed United’s 2019/20 season following his arrival from Sporting in January. In the 14 matches he played, Bruno scored 8 goals, this equated to a goal every 149 minutes. Bruno also managed to get 7 assists meaning FPL Managers who jumped on the ‘Bruno Bus’ early doors could have gained 15 returns in 14 games. I’m backing Bruno for another strong season, the pace that United possess in attack means penalties and free kicks will continue to come, and there aren’t many better in the business at tucking them away than Bruno!
However, like City, United blank in GW1 before hosting Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in GW2. I can see Bruno’s ownership falling before GW1 before a sharp spike ahead of Palace in GW2!

Verdict: 4/5 (Following blank GW1)
19 goals and 10 assists for Mo last season. He’s priced the same as his team-mate Sadio Mane (£12.0) yet has 20% more ownership than him! I think this says a lot! With 32.2% ownership, it seems like the FPL are backing Salah for a big season.
Liverpool will kick it off with Leeds at home! I’m backing Salah to start as he means to go on in GW1, I’m predicting a brace from the Egyptian! Salah will be in my team GW1 and as it stands, he’ll be my captain!

Re-classified as a midfielder this season and with Fulham away and West Ham at home in the first two matches of the season. it’s basically an open invitation to the Auba party! He finished the season strongly with a brace in the final league game of the season and another brace in the FA Cup final vs Chelsea. Keeping hold of Aubameyang might be the best business that Arteta will do this summer!
The good news for Auba enthusiasts this season is that he’ll get an extra point for any goals scored, plus he’ll be picking up any clean sheet bonuses! All in all, Auba seems super popular amongst the FPL community this season with 32.6% ownership. I think that will increase before GW1.

28 goals from 34 games in the Bundesliga last season! Chelsea seem to have an exciting talent on their hands in Werner. If he scores anywhere near the volume of goals that he achieved in Germany last season, then he’ll be owned by a lot more than the 38.8% of managers who have punted on him early doors. For me, he’s very much a watch and wait, he can play off the left-wing or as a center-forward. Should he play up top, then I think he’s £9.5 very well spent, but I have some reservations if he’s played off the wing in Pulisic’s absence!
The Liverpool away tie in GW2 aside, Chelsea have an amazing opening run of games, particularly GW3 and GW4 against West Brom and Crystal Palace.

Probably one of the more surprising names in the top ten owned players in FPL right now, especially given that a lot of Managers are still hurting from owning Mitro the last time he was in the Premier League in the 2018/19 season. Despite upsetting his owners with blanks that season, he still scored 11 goals which isn’t too shabby.
Fulham will no doubt be heavily reliant on their Serbian talisman, this showed last season in the Championship where he scored 26 of their goals! I feel like you can do a lot worse than Mitrovic for £6.0 and nearly 30% of managers seem to agree!

Danny Ings seems to have shaken off the injuries that have plagued him so long — last season he played in every one of Southampton's Premier League matches. He had an excellent campaign that saw him net one goal every 128 minutes (second-best only to Sergio Aguero's one goal per 91mins).
Ings scored 22 goals which left him one goal behind Jamie Vardy in the run-in for the golden boot. I think Ing's provides FPL managers with great value at £8.5, and Southampton's early run of games look fantastic!

With Man Utd, Man City and Burnley blanking in GW1, it has left FPL managers scratching their heads thinking of a plan B, C and D for what to do with likes of KDB, Bruno and Pope! Personally, I think the no brainer move is to start the season with Aubamayang with the aim to move him out for KDB or Bruno in GW3/GW2 respectively!
It seems that TAA, Aubamayang, Salah and Werner's ownership levels will only increase. If you are the kind of manager who fancies an early punt, then I'd recommend looking at lesser owned options like Robertson, Mane and Son for those early fixtures! It could be either catastrophic or genius!
