Hola, everyone! We have reached the second midweek round of the season in La Liga. Granada at the top, Real Madrid sitting in sixth, Espanyol and Betis in the relegation zone — a lot of things in Spain are yet not like we are used to. Gameweek 11 is just around the corner!
Real and Barcelona are clear favorites of this gameweek. They didn't play at the weekend and now have home encounters against second-tier opponents.
Real Madrid have personnel problems as Karim Benzema is questionable for Leganes due to injury.
Barca seem to be much more consistent up front. All members of the massive attacking trio have already spent a couple of games together so we are entitled to wait for point hauls from each of them.
Messi (15.2) should be locked up for your team as Leo left all his injuries behind and is ready to tear Valladolid's defense apart.
You have to consider the option of fielding all 3 Barca strikers as well. If Blaugrana run riot, such decision could help you cash in on the money. The negative consequence of this choice is that you have to find a lot of cheap defenders and midfielders as both Griezmann (14.8) and Suarez (14.4) will eat up the greater part of your budget.
In case you want cover from other lines, have a look at Jordi Alba (10.8). Left-back is well-known for extremely efficient attacking moves. Partnership with Messi could boost his potential to dizzying heights.
The most attractive game of the round will be held in Valencia where Los Ches will host Sevilla. Alberto Celades' side didn't manage to register a clean sheet in 5 last games in all competitions. What's worse, Sevilla are scoring at will except for their game against Barcelona.
I believe rotation won't have a strong impact on the quality of the players as Sevilla has decent substitutes that are capable of creating chances themselves.
Luuk de Jong (8.5) spent only 9 minutes on the pitch at the weekend so his chances of returning to the starting squad on Wednesday are high. (4.95xG with 1 goal scored, 2nd in La Liga in xG).
Maxi Gomez is the only available striker for Valencia as Rodrigo and Cheryshev are suspended; Gameiro and Guedes are still recovering from injuries. An attacking line like this is tempting enough to use Sevilla's defensive stack. Pay attention to Vaclik (6.3) (5 cleansheets in 10 games) and Jesus Navas (6.5). He is 1st in Sevilla and 8th in the league in xA.
It is Getafe's turn to stop Granada. I consider them a great differential this Gameweek as I am sure that it is Getafe at home who is able to test the unexpected La Liga leader.
Underlying stats show that Getafe and Granada are of the same level. Around 12 expected goals and a little less than 12 expected goals against.
Getafe at home possesses the 5th best defense with only 0.77xA/90. That's why Getafe's defensive stack looks a sensible decision. Marc Cucurella (7.8) is listed as a defender at FanTeam so you can get points for a clean sheet and possible attacking return. With the high risk of rotation in this round, pick defenders that are not the cheapest in the team so that the Safety Net rule could activate and save you if bad comes to worse. It is safer to choose Alan Nyom (7.2) or Damian Suarez (7.2) than take a risk with Djene Dakounam.
In case you are eager to accommodate a Getafe striker into your team, choose between Angel (8.3) and Jaime Mata (9.6). Both scored 4 goals and ~2.5 xG but it took Mata 500 minutes more to reach the figures.
Leo Messi (15.2)
This guy is not a leader in any statistical feature so far but we all know what he is capable of against such teams as Valladolid at Camp Nou. Won't be a surprise if double digits are reached in the first half.
Eden Hazard (13.5)
The safest attacking pick from Madrid for the tie against Leganes.
We hope this preview leads you to success this week on FanTeam! Good luck to us all!
