NHL Spotlight Stacks: November 21

The best daily fantasy hockey player Khan is back with a word of wisdom for today's slate. His deep analysis, line matchups, and advanced data will surely help both newbie and experienced players alike. Read on to learn from the best and use these pro tips to your advantage playing on FanTeam and Bethard

Florida - 1

Huberdeau (12.4) - Barkov (12.4) - Dadonov (11.4)

I know it's boring to see the Panthers' top line on every single hockey preview here at DraftGym, but so long as Fanteam has such a disgusting NHL tournaments structure (where you can build a lineup selecting basically any player you want, without any decent budget restrictions), the situation will remain the same. Please tell me what kind of skill such a game could involve, and the answer is obvious — none. As the best DFS-hockey player in Europe, I can tell you that the game is a lottery right now.

Back to the Florida-1, then. You all know well what this line is capable of and in what form this line currently is.

I will add only a few words about the quality of the opposition. I can tell you the Panthers basically will not see any serious resistance tonight. Anaheim sits dead last in the league in terms of xGA/60 (2.9), SCA/60 (32.1), and HDCA/60 (12.8) over the last month.

Only Rangers and Ottawa are worse than Anaheim overall this season as you can see it in the chart below:

Boston - 1

Pastrnak (14.2) - Bergeron (13.1) - Marchand (12.9)

The Bruins' head coach Bruce Cassidy is confident that Bergeron will play tonight, so the best hockey line in the world is reunited again.

The Boston's trio has already combined for 88 points this season, and the only question is whether they will be the most productive line of the slate or not.The matchup is fantastic on paper as Boston find themself as the biggest favorite among all teams playing tonight according to the bookies.

This line is a beast, especially at home, so we can expect 10+ points combined from them against the weak Buffalo Sabres lacking depth in their squad.

Edmonton - PP1

Draisaitl (12.5) - McDavid (12.9) - Klefbom (11.3)

Nothing new here. If the fact that Draisaitl and McDavid are the scoring leaders of the entire NHL with two-points-per-game pace, is not enough for you, I'll provide you with some more info.

Edmonton are visiting the struggling Los Angeles Kings tonight. The Kings are located in the bottom-10 of the league in terms of xGA/60, SCA/60, and HDCA/60 over the last month. Also, LA have received poor goaltending play early this season.

The Kings' PK% rate is the worst in the league (an ugly 72.2%), that's why using Klefbom instead of Kassian is even more preferable in this case.

Should I mention that 10 (!) players on this slate are priced higher than McDavid on Fanteam. This is absolutely insane and makes me laugh out loud. And I am pretty sure I am not the only one laughing.

Defensemen of the slate

I will focus on contrarian options in this section since the main blueliners for your lineups are obvious and you can easily afford all of them.

Zach Werenski (11.3)

This guy is averaging almost 3 shots on goal this season and quarterbacks top power-play unit of his team. This is especially important as tonight's opponent  — Detroit  — has exactly the same PK% rate the LA Kings have (72.2%).

You can create a defensive stack by playing Werenski with his teammate Jones, and such play can lead to a high reward.

Victor Hedman (12.1)

Hedman is always under-owned on Fanteam, and you can utilize it to your advantage. His quality is well known and his record this season speaks for himself: 17 points in 16 games. Hedman's upside is way bigger than Shattenkirk's so be confident using the former not the latter.

The Lightning are facing the Chicago Blackhawks, who trail only Anaheim in defensive metrics over the last month, meaning the second-worst in the NHL.

  • SCF/60: Scoring chances for per 60
  • SCA/60: Scoring chances allowed per 60
  • HDCF/60: High danger chances for per 60
  • HDCA/60: High danger chances allowed per 60
  • xGF/60: Expected goals for per 60
  • xGA/60: Expected goals allowed per 60
