NHL Spotlight Stacks: Thursday 28.03

Good evening, Khan here again with best offensive stacks and defender advice for FanTeam's NHL daily fantasy slate.

Carolina-1

While the Carolina Hurricanes's second line has been hot in recent games, their top line still has a better upside. This line, consisting of Sebastian Aho (13.5), Nino Niederreiter (12.7) and Justin Williams (10.4), possesses outstanding underlying numbers this season: 40,1 SF/60*, 33 SCF/60** and 16 HDCF/60***. Aho leads the team with 80 points (30 goals and 50 assists), while Niederreiter has 25 points (12 goals and 13 assists) in 30 games since his acquisition to the Canes. Although you might think the matchup against the Washington Capitals is a tough one, the Capitals have not actually been a good defensive team throughout this season. Their SCA/60 are the sixth-worst in the league (28.7) and their HDCA/60 are the second-worst (12.8). Expect the Canes's top line to be a nice contrarian stack tonight.

Florida-1

The Florida Panthers' top line comprised of Aleksander Barkov (15.1), Jonathan Huberdeau (14.9) and Evgenii Dadodov (14.1) has been tremendous in the month of March - during this period they combined for monster 54 points in 14 games. This line plays on the top power play together, which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside. Tonight they find themselves in a plus matchup against the worst team in the NHL - the Ottawa Senators. The recent results of the Senators (4 wins in 6 games, 2 shutouts) should not mislead you, as the Senators continue to be a terrible team defensively, sitting dead last in the league in terms of SCA/60 (32.7) and HDCA/60 (14.4) over the last month.

Winnipeg-1

Playing against the New York Islanders appeared to be a nice option at this stage of the season and tonight we have to make a case for the Winnipeg Jets' top line consisting of Blake Wheeler (14.2), Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers (10.5). This line will likely see a low ownership, while a multi-point upside is certainly here. Wheeler and Scheifele have been particularly dominant at home this season, producing 101 points combined in 39 games. Ehlers has a solid 11 goals and 11 assists in his 28 home games this season. The New York Islanders sit in the bottom-5 in the league in terms of SCA/60 (29.3) and in the bottom-7 in terms of HDCA/60 (12.1) over the last month and this bodes well for the Jets' top line to show up.

Defender of the slate

Brent Burns (16.6)

The NHL's leading defenseman scorer Brent Burns (13 goals and 64 assists in 76 games) has yet to have a multi-point game this month and we can surely expect it to be done tonight. The Sharks will host the Chicago Blackhawks - the sixth-worst team in terms of HDCA/60 (12.2) and the fourth-worst team in terms of penalty kill rate (72%) over the last month. Burns, who fires a ton of shots (10 SoG in his previous game) and gets the extra time during the absence of Erik Karlsson, should have no problems hitting the scoresheet tonight. Get as much exposure to him as you can.

* SF/60 - Shots for per 60 minutes

** SCF/60 - Scoring chances for per 60 minutes

*** HDCF/60 – High danger chances for per 60 minutes
